KANE COUNTY, Utah — The Kane County Sheriff’s Department arrested 32-year-old Armando Garcia Becerra on July 5, 2025, on charges including automobile homicide and driving under the influence after a utility task vehicle (UTV) he was driving rolled over, fatally injuring his 7-year-old passenger.
The child, a young girl, was knocked unconscious during the crash and later died from severe head trauma at the Mammoth Creek Fire Station, where she had been transported by her parents.
Becerra admitted to deputies that he had been drinking prior to the accident. According to his arrest documents, he consumed five to six 16-ounce beers between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and was still under the influence nearly two hours after the crash.
He faces several charges: automobile homicide (a second-degree felony), three counts of driving under the influence with a passenger under 16 (class A misdemeanors), negligently operating a vehicle causing injury (class A misdemeanor), and reckless driving (class B misdemeanor). The Kane County Attorney’s Office will determine final charges and their severity if the case proceeds to trial.
Deputies were notified on July 5 when the parents brought their unconscious daughter to the Mammoth Creek Fire Station. The rollover occurred when Becerra lost control of the UTV he was driving, which had three juvenile female passengers including the victim seated directly behind him.
Law enforcement noted the smell of alcohol on Becerra’s breath at the scene and after administering Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, he was found impaired. Breath tests confirmed his blood alcohol content was above Utah’s legal limit.
Becerra’s bail has been set at $5,000, and he remains in custody as the investigation continues.
