The Goa Cybercrime Cell has arrested a man from Kerala in connection with an online investment fraud in which a resident of Caranzalem was cheated of Rs67 lakh by fraudsters impersonating a reputed investment firm through a fake trading application.
The accused has been identified as Anuraj R, a resident of Kattakkada in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. Police said he allegedly used multiple WhatsApp numbers to lure the victim with false assurances of high returns on investments.
The case came to light after the Caranzalem resident lodged a complaint in December 2025, stating that he was induced to invest large sums through a fraudulent trading app that appeared to represent a well-known investment company.
During the investigation, cybercrime officials found that the same bank account used in this case was linked to four other cyber fraud complaints registered in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Goa, involving a combined fraud amount of Rs54.4 lakh.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace additional accomplices, identify other victims, and determine the full extent of the scam. Authorities have urged citizens to verify investment platforms carefully and avoid unsolicited offers promising unusually high returns.
