In a shocking case of matrimonial fraud, Rajasthan Police have arrested Anuradha Paswan (23), accused of marrying 25 men across multiple Indian states in just seven months and fleeing with their valuables. Dubbed the “loot-and-scoot bride”, she was arrested in Bhopal on Monday by Sawai Madhopur police.
According to Investigation Officer Meetha Lal from Manpur Police Station, Anuradha was part of a sophisticated marriage racket. She and her associates targeted vulnerable grooms, presented her as the perfect bride, completed the marriage through legal channels, and then disappeared within days—taking with her gold jewellery, cash, and electronic goods.
The case surfaced after Vishnu Sharma, a resident of Sawai Madhopur, filed a complaint on May 3. Sharma stated he had paid Rs2 lakh to two local agents, Sunita and Pappu Meena, to arrange a match. He married Anuradha on April 20, only for her to vanish on May 2, taking valuables with her.
Police traced Anuradha’s background to a hospital job in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, before a domestic dispute led her to relocate to Bhopal. There, she joined a gang that conducted similar scams using WhatsApp to showcase brides and charging Rs2–5 lakh per marriage. Victims were typically left cheated within a week of the wedding.
Other members of the gang have been identified as Roshni, Raghubir, Golu, Majboot Singh Yadav, and Arjan, all reportedly based in Bhopal.
Anuradha had even married another man named Gabbar in Bhopal after fleeing from Sharma, again collecting Rs2 lakh from him.
Her arrest was made after police sent an undercover constable as a fake groom. Once agents circulated her photo again, authorities acted swiftly and apprehended her.
An investigation is ongoing to trace other victims and arrest co-conspirators across multiple states.
