On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested Anup Singh, a key accused in the murder of Nanakmatta Dera chief, Baba Tarsem Singh. Singh, a resident of Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh, had been on the run since the murder in March of the previous year. Police had announced a reward of Rs25,000 for information leading to his capture.
Baba Tarsem Singh, the former Kar Seva Pramukh of the Nanakmatta Gurdwara in Udham Singh Nagar district, was tragically shot dead in March 2024. One of the attackers, Amarjit Singh alias Bittu, was killed in an encounter with the Haridwar police the following month.
SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar of the STF shared that the arrest came after a tip-off, prompting a raid on the Haridwar-Bijnor highway near Gandikhata village under the Shayampur police station limits. Singh has since been handed over to the US Nagar police. With this arrest, a total of 10 individuals have now been arrested in connection with the case.
