A 53-year-old Miami-Dade County man is facing several charges after deputies say he fled the scene of a crash and was later found with a stolen firearm.

Records show Antonio Tzintzun, a resident of southern Miami-Dade and originally from Mexico, was being held Monday at the Metrowest Detention Center on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

According to the arrest report, a deputy witnessed Tzintzun fail to stop at a stop sign after a hit-and-run crash on Nov. 27 near Southwest 344 Street and 212 Avenue. During the traffic stop, the deputy reported seeing a stolen gun on the passenger seat. Tzintzun allegedly told authorities he used the firearm “at work in a nursery to scare away animals.”

Tzintzun is charged with grand theft of a firearm, driving without a valid license, and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
