EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Antonio Chavez, 56, was arrested on July 21 for fraudulent business practices related to a home remodeling project, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).
Chavez, owner of EP Chavez Construction, faces charges of theft of property after an elderly homeowner reported paying for a remodeling job that was never completed. Despite multiple payments, the work was left unfinished, and Chavez’s company ceased responding to the client’s inquiries.
Over a six-month investigation, EPCSO said Chavez repeatedly made false promises to start the project or issue a refund but failed to follow through. Authorities secured an arrest warrant once enough evidence was gathered.
Chavez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond set at $5,000.
“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the community and pursuing justice for all victims,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, emphasizing that deceptive business practices and theft are serious offenses.
