KANE COUNTY, Ill. — A traffic stop in Kaneville Township led to felony and misdemeanor charges for a DeKalb man after deputies allegedly discovered a firearm and improperly stored cannabis.
Kane County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a maroon Kia sedan around 9:46 a.m. on March 28 along I-88 at Main Street for a lane violation. The vehicle was also found to have a suspended Illinois license plate.
The driver, 27-year-old Antoine Murdock of DeKalb, was identified at the scene. Deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle and found a gym bag containing an SCCY 9mm handgun and approximately 25 grams of cannabis, which was reportedly not stored in compliance with Illinois law.
Authorities say Murdock did not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license.
He now faces the following charges:
Aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (Class 4 felony)
Unlawful possession of cannabis (Class B misdemeanor)
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
