COVINGTON, Ky. – Anthony Wynn, a man from Cincinnati, was convicted Thursday of federal charges including armed cocaine trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. A jury returned the verdict in less than three hours.
The case stems from a 2020 traffic stop, during which officers suspected Wynn of driving under the influence. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered two bags of crack cocaine, one bag of marijuana, a digital scale in the center console, and two loaded firearms — one in the glove box and another in the trunk.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the guns were used to protect Wynn’s drugs and drug money, a common practice among traffickers. However, Wynn was legally barred from owning firearms due to prior felony convictions.
Wynn now faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, with a possible maximum of life imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for July 16.
This conviction underscores the federal government’s focus on armed drug trafficking, particularly by repeat offenders with histories of violence or illegal weapon use.
