In a shocking incident, Jhajjar Police arrested a man on Monday for allegedly murdering his pregnant wife near Pahsaur village on the night of February 15.
The accused has been identified as Anshul Dhawan, a chartered accountant from Hisar. The victim, Mahak (27), was employed at a private bank and was five months pregnant at the time of her death. The couple had tied the knot on September 25, 2025.
Murder After Valentine’s Day Celebration
According to police officials, the couple was returning to Gurugram after celebrating Valentine’s Day in Hisar when the crime took place. The incident occurred near Pahsaur village under the jurisdiction of Badli Police Station.
Police said the murder appeared to be pre-planned, alleging that the accused doubted his wife’s character. Officials stated that Mahak was first strangled and then attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.
Initially, Anshul Dhawan reportedly informed the police and attempted to portray the incident as a loot attempt. However, when taken to the crime scene, he failed to provide consistent details about the alleged attackers. During sustained questioning, he allegedly confessed to killing his wife.
Family Alleges Strangulation and Attack
The victim’s father, Krishan Kathuria, a vegetable vendor from Hansi, said the couple was travelling toward Gurugram when the incident occurred. Upon reaching the spot near Pahsaur village, the family found Mahak’s body in nearby fields with visible injury marks around her neck.
He alleged that his daughter was strangled before being attacked with a sharp object, possibly scissors. Suspicion arose when the accused allegedly provided misleading explanations about the incident.
Police confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been conducted. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections, and further investigation is underway.
Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken as per law following a thorough probe into the case.
