Annemarie Flanigan, the owner of the boat involved in a fatal crash at Harris Lake, was taken into custody and booked into Moore County Jail.
Flanigan is the girlfriend of Quinten Kight, who was previously charged in connection with the incident. She now faces felony charges including death by impaired boating, serious injury via impaired boating, and aiding and abetting boating while impaired.
The tragic crash occurred on Saturday afternoon when a boat allegedly driven by Kight struck a group of swimmers, resulting in the death of 10-year-old Brooklyn Carroll, a fifth-grader at West Lake Elementary School in Cary. Another swimmer, Jennifer Stehle, was seriously injured and required leg amputation.
Authorities recovered 39 empty beer cans from the boat, believed to have been operated by Kight, who is charged with operating a motor vessel while under the influence and unintentionally causing death.
Kight, 40, faces felony charges for boating under the influence and causing the death of another person.
Michaela Trujillo, Kight’s former wife, expressed shock and sadness over the incident. She noted that although Kight liked to drink, she never expected something so tragic. Trujillo said they had recently reconnected and that Kight had been speaking about making positive changes in his life.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for the victims of this heartbreaking accident.
