A 20-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly attempting to break into an ATM kiosk and steal money in Annanagar, Chennai.
The incident came to light when the manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Annanagar filed a complaint at the local police station. According to the complaint, in the early hours of October 9, the bank received an alert from its Hyderabad-based CCTV monitoring centre about a suspicious individual breaking into the ATM centre located on 5th Main Road, W Block.
Bank officials rushed to the site after receiving the alert and discovered the ATM door had been forcibly broken open. Fortunately, a preliminary check confirmed no money was stolen from the machine. The manager promptly requested police intervention.
Following the complaint, Annanagar police registered a case and launched an investigation. A special team, led by a Crime Sub-Inspector, conducted a detailed inspection and reviewed CCTV footage from the kiosk.
Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of the accused, Ramkumar, 20, a native of Theni district residing on 6th Avenue, Annanagar.
After interrogation, Ramkumar was produced before a court on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody.
