New Delhi: An 18-year-old teenager was allegedly drugged and murdered by two of his friends following a personal dispute linked to a relationship, police said on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Ankit, a resident of Sadar Bazar, had been reported missing from the Gulabi Bagh area on November 18. His body was recovered four days later from the Munak Canal near the Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant in outer north Delhi after police received a PCR call.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said the victim’s hands and feet were tied with shoelaces, while a handkerchief was found around his neck. Police also noticed three sharp injuries on his head. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
The investigation took a decisive turn after the Special Cell in Rohini arrested one of the accused, Ashish (23), in an unrelated case. During interrogation, Ashish allegedly confessed to the murder, leading to the arrest of his accomplice, Vishal Dhilod (23).
Police said the murder stemmed from a personal grudge, as Ashish was reportedly angry over Ankit’s relationship with his cousin, despite repeated warnings to stay away.
On the day of the crime, the accused allegedly lured Ankit to Tikri Kalan Metro Station and took him on a scooter to a house in Gaddha Colony. There, they allegedly drugged him, tied his limbs, and assaulted him with a sharp-edged weapon before disposing of the body in the canal.
Further investigation is ongoing.
