Jaipur city police on Sunday arrested Anju Chopra, 40, a resident of New Delhi, for allegedly stealing gold bangles from a jewellery showroom near the Government Hostel area in Jaipur.

According to DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma, her arrest was made possible through the advanced tracking technologies of ICJS (Interoperable Criminal Justice System) and NATGRID (National Intelligence Grid), which helped trace her identity and location.

The theft took place on June 17, and a complaint was lodged the following day by showroom manager Bablu Kumar. CCTV footage captured the woman committing the theft, leading investigators to launch a targeted search.

Varma explained that Chopra used a calculated modus operandi: she would board a train from Delhi in the early morning and arrive in Jaipur to target jewellery stores. Once inside, she would ask to try on gold bangles and then engage the staff in lengthy conversations over pricing. During this distraction, she would swap the real bangles with fake ones and escape unnoticed.

In this case, she stole two gold bangles weighing 28 grams using the same technique. The recovered CCTV footage, combined with data from national intelligence systems, enabled police to locate and arrest her.
