A woman named Anjali Singh, also known as Priya Singh, was arrested in Ajmer, Rajasthan, for killing her three-year-old daughter by throwing her into Ana Sagar lake. Anjali, who had been living in Ajmer with her live-in partner, allegedly wanted to get rid of the child she shared with her estranged husband.
The case came to light on Tuesday when police spotted Anjali acting suspiciously near the Bajrang Garh crossing. When questioned, she falsely claimed that her daughter was missing and that a search was underway.
Authorities took the couple to the police control room and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The footage showed Anjali last seen with her daughter between 10 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., followed by her visit to the old Ana Sagar Chowpatty after 1:30 a.m., where safety railings were missing.
It was at this spot that she allegedly pushed her daughter, who had been put to sleep beforehand, into the lake. After intense questioning, Anjali, originally from Varanasi, confessed to the crime.
Following the incident, Anjali called her live-in partner, Aklesh Gupta, also from Uttar Pradesh, to the scene. Investigation revealed she had left her husband before moving to Ajmer with her partner.
The daughter’s body was later recovered from the lake. Meanwhile, Anjali’s husband in Varanasi had filed a missing person report for his wife.
