Anita Mirmohammadi, a former finance manager, has been sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison after embezzling £189,000 from her employer. The 31-year-old used the stolen funds to support a lavish lifestyle, shopping at Harrods and Selfridges, buying from high-end brands like Mercedes-Benz, and even undergoing dental work at a renowned London clinic.
Mirmohammadi’s fraudulent actions were uncovered when unexplained transactions began appearing in her company’s accounts between 2018 and 2022. The finance manager, who was arrested in May 2022 at London Gatwick Airport upon returning from a Dubai holiday, had been using company money for personal purchases on platforms like Amazon, Apple, Uber, and Zara.
Her fraudulent activities were exposed after a detailed investigation revealed she was siphoning money via fraudulent invoices and misusing the company’s credit card. The case went to trial, and after a seven-day hearing in March, jurors found Mirmohammadi guilty of fraud by false representation.
Detective Constable Karen Venables stated, “This was a calculated, ongoing fraud that would have continued had she not been caught. She clearly knew what she was doing was wrong and attempted to conceal her actions.”
A confiscation hearing to recover the stolen money under the Proceeds of Crime Act has been scheduled for November 3rd.
