In a case of betrayal, Aninda Dutta (21), a resident of Gangarampur in Dakshin Dinajpur district, has been arrested for defrauding his close friend Debadityo Pal of a whopping Rs63 lakh.
According to reports, Aninda and Debadityo, who were good friends, had discussed investment opportunities in the stock market and a hotel business in Darjeeling. Trusting Aninda, Debadityo decided to invest his money based on the assurances of high returns. Over time, Debadityo handed over the ₹63 lakh to Aninda, who promised significant profits from the investments.
However, Aninda allegedly failed to generate any returns and refused to return the money. As the situation worsened, Debadityo filed a fraud case at the Siliguri police station in June, leading to the arrest of Aninda. The police are now investigating the details of the scam, and further legal actions are underway.
This case highlights the dangers of placing blind trust in friends when it comes to financial matters.
