The anti-drug squad of police in Changlang district arrested two interstate drug peddlers and seized 42.93 grams of suspected heroin concealed in soap cases during an operation on Sunday.
According to Kirli Padu, Superintendent of Police of Changlang, the suspects were apprehended near the Wagun Ponthai tri-junction under the Bordumsa circle.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, an anti-drug squad led by Tomai Wangpan intercepted a vehicle travelling from Jagun toward Bordumsa along National Highway 215.
During a detailed search of the vehicle, police recovered 42.93 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs2.74 lakh, hidden beneath the steering box inside four soap cases. Officers also seized two mobile phones and Rs4,900 in cash from the suspects.
The accused were identified as Anil Sharma (46) and Dulu Baruah (40). The vehicle used in the operation has been impounded by police.
Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the heroin and possible links to a wider interstate drug trafficking network.
