Anik Das and Pallab Das Arrested for Theft in Silchar Shani Mandir

Ornaments Stolen and Idol Damaged at National Highway Temple

In a swift response, the Silchar police arrested two youths for allegedly stealing ornaments and damaging an idol at a Shani Mandir near the National Highway in Cachar district.

According to Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta, police received information about the theft in the early hours of August 16. Jewellery was stolen from the temple, and the Shanidev idol was partially damaged.

Forensic experts conducted fingerprint and technical analysis at the scene to aid the investigation.

During the inquiry, police arrested the prime suspects, identified as Anik Das (27) and Pallab Das (26). Authorities recovered the stolen items, which included one gold chain, the golden eye of the idol, and two silver bracelets.

A group of locals had attempted to block the road in protest, but police dispersed them promptly, maintaining law and order.
