A 49-year-old Riverside woman, Angela Ann Garcia, was arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal shooting at Villegas Park early Saturday morning.
Police responded to the scene, located in the 3000 block of Esperanza Street in the Casa Blanca neighborhood, around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Tuesday Perez, a 51-year-old Riverside woman, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite paramedics’ efforts, Perez was declared dead at the scene.
Detectives identified Garcia as the suspect after hours of investigation and learned of an ongoing dispute between her and Perez, which had led to the confrontation at the park. Investigators say the altercation escalated, leading Garcia to open fire on Perez.
Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies later spotted Garcia driving in Moreno Valley and initiated a slow-speed pursuit. They successfully stopped her vehicle near Ramona Expressway and Perris Boulevard, taking her into custody. Garcia was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries before being booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder.
Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Riverside Police Department investigators at (951) 353-7134.
