CAPE COAST, Ghana – Two men suspected of being part of a smuggling syndicate have been arrested by Cape Coast police during a special intelligence-led operation targeting illegal trade activities in Elmina.
The suspects, Andy Kwofie and Francis Armah, were apprehended on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Kwofie was caught transporting 250 bags of cocoa beans in a Hyundai truck with registration number CR-726-25. During police questioning, Kwofie identified Armah as the intended recipient, who allegedly planned to smuggle the cocoa to undisclosed neighbouring countries.
The truck and its cargo have been impounded and are currently held at the Central Regional Police Headquarters. Both suspects are in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities believe the arrests are part of a broader crackdown on a syndicate involved in smuggling cocoa beans and illicit drugs across West African borders. Police have vowed to continue operations to dismantle the network.
