LOWELL, Maine – A domestic violence incident in Lowell led to a prolonged standoff, but Maine State Police successfully facilitated the peaceful surrender of the suspect on Monday afternoon.
On Sunday, February 23, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Troopers responded to a 911 call from a female reporting a domestic violence situation at a residence on West Old Main Road. Upon arrival, Troopers assisted the victim to safety, but her husband, 55-year-old Andrew York of Lowell, remained inside and refused to exit the home.
Law enforcement maintained a presence at the scene while attempting to establish contact with York. On Monday, February 24, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team arrived to assist. After several hours of negotiation, by 4:30 p.m., negotiators secured York’s surrender without incident.
York was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Once released, he will be booked at the Penobscot County Jail on domestic violence-related charges. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
The case remains under investigation by the Maine State Police.
