AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) – Nearly two years after the fatal shooting of Tyler Robinson, 35-year-old Andrew Redmond pleaded guilty to intentional or knowing murder and was sentenced to 27 years in prison on Wednesday at the Capitol Judicial Center.

The sentence stems from the July 28, 2023, killing of Robinson, whose body was discovered along Old Belgrade Road in Augusta after being seen by passing motorists. Authorities confirmed that Robinson died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, and that he and Redmond were acquainted.

Assistant District Attorney Bud Ellis told the court that Redmond had reportedly made a statement to Robinson’s girlfriend following the shooting, saying, “Sorry, it was not supposed to go down like that.” The plea deal, which included a 27-year sentence, was accepted by the judge—just two years more than the state’s minimum penalty of 25 years for murder.

Redmond did not speak at the hearing. While members of his family were present and expressed their love as he was escorted out, no one from Robinson’s family attended, and no victim impact statements were submitted.

Following the murder, Redmond fled Maine. He was arrested in Biloxi, Mississippi, in September 2023, after leading police on a chase along Interstate 10. He was apprehended without incident along with his wife, who was in the vehicle.
