LAGOS — A Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square has sentenced Andrew Nice Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, to death by hanging for the murder of 22-year-old Bamise Ayanwola.

Justice Sherifat Sonaike delivered the judgment on Friday, convicting Ominikoron on multiple charges connected to the death of Ayanwola, a young fashion designer who went missing in 2022 after boarding a BRT bus operated by the defendant.

Ayanwola was last seen entering the bus in Lagos, after which she was reported missing. Her body was later found, prompting widespread outrage and public demand for justice.

The court found that Ominikoron had abused his position as a trusted public transport driver, ultimately leading to the tragic death of the young woman.

The judge described the crime as “horrific and premeditated,” concluding that the only appropriate sentence under the law was death by hanging.
