EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 25-year-old El Paso man, Andrew James Maxwell, was arrested for reckless driving after a social media video showed him allegedly speeding at over 115 MPH on Interstate 10 before crashing.

The incident occurred on June 27, when a video was posted online showing a 2017 Audi A4 racing down I-10 East near Airway. The footage, recorded from inside the vehicle, clearly displays the dashboard and speedometer, which shows speeds ranging from 109 to 115 MPH. The video later cuts to the wrecked vehicle being loaded onto a tow truck, reportedly after crashing into a concrete barrier.

Police later identified Maxwell as the driver, but according to arrest documents, he initially denied driving and tried to place the blame on a friend with whom he co-owns the vehicle. When questioned, Maxwell told officers it wasn’t him driving and refused to identify the person he claimed was behind the wheel.

However, investigators spoke to the co-owner, who provided evidence he was out of town during the crash. He also showed a recording of Maxwell describing the crash and admitting to being the driver.

Further evidence from the towing company confirmed that Maxwell paid for the tow, strengthening the case against him.

Maxwell was booked into the El Paso County Jail on July 24 and released the same day on a personal recognizance bond. His bond was set at $2,500.
