INGLEWOOD, Calif. (CBS12) — The customer who allegedly drove an SUV into a CarMax showroom over the weekend, injuring several people, has been charged with attempted murder and multiple other felonies, according to court documents.

The suspect, 25-year-old Andrew Jesus Arroyo, faces charges that include nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in injury, and one count of vandalism for causing over $400 in damage. The charges stem from an incident at a CarMax location in Inglewood, California, on Saturday, March 8.

A viral video captured Arroyo allegedly backing the SUV into the CarMax building before driving through the showroom, narrowly missing employees and customers. As the vehicle sped through the business, furniture and equipment were knocked over and scattered. Employees can be seen scrambling to get out of the way as the vehicle makes its way through the showroom.

“We are profoundly shocked and heartbroken by the horrific act that occurred on Saturday,” a CarMax spokesperson stated. “An individual drove through the showroom, injuring one CarMax employee and several customers.”

The injured employee was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries but was later released. The company also confirmed that eight people were injured during the incident. Two individuals are reported to be in critical condition, while six others suffered minor injuries.

Luis Garcia from the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and provided medical assistance to the injured.

Arroyo’s actions, captured on video and confirmed by witnesses, have led to severe charges, including attempted murder, as authorities continue to investigate the violent incident. The case has left both the CarMax community and the public in shock.
