The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old Andrew Atkerson of Daytona Beach last week in connection with the robbery of a construction site in Palm Coast’s E Section. Atkerson faces charges of grand theft and violation of probation.
The stolen property came from a house under construction on Eric Drive. The future homeowner visited the site on May 5th and noticed a truck driving away with a tarp-covered bed. Upon inspection, the air conditioning condenser was missing.
Investigators discovered the truck was rented by Atkerson, leading to an investigation that began on May 6th. During questioning, Atkerson claimed he took the condenser to help someone in need but later regretted the theft. The condenser was returned to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Operations Center three days later by a friend of Atkerson’s.
Atkerson was arrested on July 9th during a traffic stop and booked without bond. He has a history of serious offenses in Flagler County and other states, including child neglect, battery, carjacking, burglary, and domestic violence.
Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly stated, “This repeat offender made a deliberate decision to steal from a construction site. Thanks to the homeowner’s vigilance and the efforts of our detectives, Real Time Crime Center, and PACE unit, we were able to apprehend him. Let this serve as a warning: stealing from construction sites will lead to arrest and jail time.”
