MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie couple is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing collectible cards from a Target store and swallowing heroin during a police chase.

Andrew Dart, 35, and Chalista Dart, 36, were arrested last week by Muncie Police Department and booked into Delaware County Jail. They are charged with theft, narcotics possession, and resisting law enforcement. Target employees reported that the couple are serial shoplifters who have previously threatened staff with violence.

Officers responded around 5 p.m. on February 10 to the Target on N. Barr Street for a report of two people shoplifting. The suspects had loaded a cart with stolen items and were asked to leave.

Police spotted the couple riding bikes away from the store in separate directions. Chalista Dart was caught after officers grabbed her hood to stop her from fleeing. Officers found $190 worth of NFL and UFC collectible cards, along with drug paraphernalia, in her pockets.

Andrew Dart was also pursued on a bike. During arrest, he resisted and attempted to reach into his pockets, causing officers to take him to the ground. Several syringes containing brown liquid fell out of his pockets. A stolen box of Grateful Dead playing cards worth $60 and a knife were also recovered.

While being transported, Andrew admitted to ingesting three grams of heroin. He became unresponsive in the police car and was administered nasal Narcan. EMS transported him to Ball Memorial Hospital for treatment before being booked at Delaware County Jail on February 14.
