SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Two men have been arrested on drug and firearms charges as part of a crackdown on crime in Scranton’s west side, authorities announced.
Andre Powers and Merlyn Campusano-Aquino were taken into custody after allegedly selling fentanyl pills to a confidential informant, according to Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher. The arrests were made under the “Take Back Our Neighborhoods Initiative,” which focuses on combating drug and gun-related activity in the region.
In addition to the drug trafficking charges, Campusano-Aquino is also facing charges for illegal firearm possession and resisting arrest.
“We will continue to aggressively pursue those bringing crime into our communities,” said Gallagher in a statement, reaffirming the DA’s commitment to public safety.
If convicted:
Andre Powers could face up to 32 years in prison and $265,000 in fines.
Merlyn Campusano-Aquino could face up to 64 years and $525,000 in fines.
Both men remain in custody as their cases move through the court system. Authorities say more arrests may follow as part of the broader initiative.
