Bhubaneswar: In a swift breakthrough, Chandrasekharpur police have arrested two individuals in connection with a violent robbery that took place at a HIG Duplex residence in Sailashree Vihar on Friday, July 4.
The accused have been identified as Ananta Panda (31) and Chandrakanta Sahoo (32), both residents of Puruna Basanta village in Jagatsinghpur district. The primary accused, Ananta Panda, was arrested near Buddha Park in Niladri Vihar, while Chandrakanta Sahoo, the receiver of the stolen gold, was apprehended at his residence.
The robbery occurred at HIG Duplex-40, opposite DAV School, when Sushma Mishra, an elderly woman, was alone at home. Her husband, Durga Madhav Mishra, had left early in the morning for a golf session. Taking advantage of the situation, Ananta Panda and his associate Ajay Swain (still at large) forcibly entered the home, tied up and gagged the victim, and assaulted her before stealing cash and gold jewellery, including a necklace and a ring.
The incident came to light when the family driver, Soumya Mallick, alerted the complainant, Sanyog Mishra, who found his mother injured and rushed her to KIMS Hospital for treatment. A case was registered at Chandrasekharpur Police Station.
During interrogation, Ananta Panda admitted to committing the robbery with Ajay Swain and revealed that the stolen gold was sold to Chandrakanta Sahoo for Rs1.95 lakh. A subsequent police raid led to the recovery of melted gold pieces and other ornaments from Sahoo’s home. He confessed to purchasing the stolen gold.
Both Ananta Panda and Chandrakanta Sahoo were produced in court on Thursday. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to arrest Ajay Swain, who remains absconding.
