ANAMBRA, Nigeria — The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a three-year-old boy reported stolen and arrested six members of a child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos states.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command began an investigation on September 4, 2025, following a report from the child’s mother, who had left her son in the care of Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno. On her return, both Samuel and the child were missing.

Investigators from the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka swiftly arrested Samuel Ibe, whose confessional statement led to the arrests of his mother, Agatha Ejeweh (35), and younger brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera (15).

The probe extended to Enugu State, where Angela Eze (30) and Juliet Onah were apprehended for attempting to facilitate the child’s transfer to Lagos. Acting on intelligence, operatives tracked the child to Lagos and successfully rescued him. The child has since been reunited with his family in good health.

All six suspects are currently in custody and will face court charges upon completion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and warned criminal elements that Anambra State remains unsafe for illegal activities.
