The Amritsar Police on Thursday busted a cross-border heroin smuggling network, arresting two men and recovering 7.6 kg of heroin along with Rs 21,800 in drug money.
The accused have been identified as:
Sahibpreet Singh alias Sahib – 19, resident of Fatehgarh Churian, Batala
Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan – 26, resident of Kotkhalsa
Both have prior criminal records, including offences under the Arms Act and snatching-related cases.
According to Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs. The accused allegedly ordered heroin from Pakistan using drones, receiving consignments through the Dera Baba Nanak border area.
Police stated that the duo operated under the instructions of a Dubai-based handler, Karandeep alias Karan, collecting heroin consignments dropped near the border and distributing them across Punjab. Karandeep reportedly sent GPS locations to their phones to coordinate pickups.
Karandeep is also linked to a prior seizure of 140 kg of heroin by Rajasansi Amritsar Rural Police, in which his mother and sister were arrested.
Commissioner Bhullar warned that drug smugglers are targeting young people and luring them into crime, urging parents to monitor their children closely. Further investigation into the smuggling network and its cross-border operations is ongoing.
