Amritpal Singh Mehron, the prime accused in the murder of Punjab-based social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabhi,’ fled to the UAE just hours after the crime, police confirmed on Sunday.
Bhatinda Senior Superintendent of Police Amneet Kondal revealed that a lookout circular was issued against Mehron, a 30-year-old self-styled Sikh radical leader from Moga. He is also suspected of threatening other Punjab influencers.
“Police traced Mehron’s travel records and confirmed he left Amritsar for the UAE on the evening of the murder day,” said Kondal. Authorities are coordinating for his deportation and have informed relevant agencies.
Kanchan Kumari, aged 30 and a popular influencer with over 3.8 lakh Instagram followers and 2.36 lakh YouTube subscribers, was found strangled in an abandoned car in Bathinda on June 9.
Two men—Jaspreet Singh (32) and Nimratjit Singh (21)—have been arrested. They confessed to the killing, claiming Kanchan’s social media content was “immoral” and offensive to the community. Further investigations revealed Mehron masterminded the murder months prior.
The conspiracy involved tracking Kanchan’s movements in Ludhiana and Bathinda. On the murder day, Mehron lured her under the guise of a car promotion event. After forcing her into a vehicle, Jaspreet and Nimratjit strangled her. Mehron fled to the UAE while accomplices abandoned her body near Adesh University.
Police continue to search for two more suspects linked to Mehron. Meanwhile, the case has sparked widespread debate over influencer safety and online content in Punjab.
