In a major crackdown on narcotics, police on Tuesday arrested five alleged drug peddlers, including a husband–wife duo, from Jammu, Udhampur and Poonch districts. Significant quantities of heroin and charas were seized during the coordinated operations.
According to officials, Amjad Khan alias Taiya and his wife Shamshad Akhter alias Putti were apprehended from a known drug hotspot in the Sakinderpur Kothey area of Bishnah, Jammu. Police recovered 22.45 grams of heroin from their possession.
In another action, Manohar Lal, a resident of Paddar in Kishtwar district, was intercepted during vehicle checking at Jakhani, Udhampur. Officers seized 422.90 grams of charas from his motorcycle while he was travelling towards Jammu.
Police also arrested Sunil Kumar at Tikri, Udhampur, after 472.27 grams of charas were found inside his bag during a routine check.
Meanwhile in Poonch district, Inam-ul-Haq, a resident of Surankote, was detained at Fazlabad Bridge, where police recovered 11.20 grams of heroin from him.
All five accused have been booked under separate NDPS Act cases, and further investigation is under way.
