Hanumanganj police have cracked the murder of 65-year-old moneylender Saeed, also known as Bhannat, whose body was found in a drain in Ashoka Garden on October 21.
Authorities arrested Amir Qureshi aka Amir Kabab (26), a resident of Qazi Camp, who confessed to the crime. Police revealed that the murder stemmed from a long-standing debt dispute. Amir owed Rs 2 lakh to Saeed, who had repeatedly harassed and threatened him over repayment.
According to DCP Zone-3 Abhinav Choukse, the confrontation escalated on October 17 when Saeed visited Amir’s home. Following a heated argument in which Saeed humiliated and struck him, Amir allegedly stabbed Saeed multiple times with scissors and later slit his throat with a knife.
To conceal the crime, Amir reportedly packed the body in a plastic sack and transported it to Ashoka Garden in a battery rickshaw, dumping it in a drain around 2 AM. Police have recovered both the murder weapon and the rickshaw used in the act.
The investigation highlights how personal disputes over money can turn deadly, and the police have assured strict action against the accused.
