In a decisive crackdown on the drug menace, Jammu and Kashmir police have detained a notorious drug peddler and seized over Rs70 lakh worth of property belonging to another in the Udhampur district.
Amir Khan, alias “Meedu,” a resident of Saillan Talab in Udhampur, was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. Authorities secured formal detention orders due to Khan’s continued involvement in drug distribution among youth in the region.
“His actions posed a grave threat to public safety,” a police spokesperson said, adding that multiple cases had already been registered against Khan across various police stations in the district.
In a parallel operation, moveable and immovable property worth over Rs70 lakh, belonging to another alleged drug dealer, Sanjay Kumar, was seized. A resident of Kah Phalata in Udhampur, Kumar is accused in an NDPS case registered at Rehambal police station earlier this year.
Seized items include a residential property, a car, a three-wheeler, and two motorcycles. The attachment order was issued by the investigating officer as part of the ongoing legal process.
In a separate incident in Samba district, police arrested Vinod Kumar, originally from Uttar Pradesh, and recovered 97.24 grams of Ganja, Rs3.51 lakh in cash, and a weighing machine. Kumar was residing in Rajeev Colony, Teli Basti near Bari Brahmana and has been booked under the NDPS Act.
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway in all three cases.
