In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Udhampur police arrested Amir Khan, alias Midu, after recovering 6.95 grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession. The arrest occurred as part of routine patrolling duties carried out by the police team under the leadership of SHO Raghuvir Singh.
The incident unfolded when Amir Khan, a resident of Sallian Talab, Udhampur, became suspicious while attempting to evade the police. Upon searching him thoroughly, the officers discovered the heroin-like contraband.
A case (FIR number 153/2025) has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing. The police are closely examining his involvement in the broader drug network.
As per the latest figures, Udhampur police have registered 34 cases under the NDPS and PIT NDPS/PSA Acts this year. The police have also arrested 52 individuals linked to drug trafficking, seizing 13 vehicles used in illegal drug trade. Additionally, 26 bank accounts belonging to drug peddlers were frozen, with over Rs 16 lakh seized. In a parallel operation, contraband worth Rs 1.64 crore was confiscated, and properties valued at Rs 2.49 crore were attached, linked to NDPS violations and bovine smuggling cases.
This is part of a significant crackdown aimed at eradicating drug trafficking and related financial crimes in the region.
