On Friday, the CIA-1 unit of the Ambala police arrested Hira Chawla, a resident of Jaggi Colony, after recovering 1 kg of heroin from his possession. The seized drug, valued at approximately Rs7 crore in the international market, was found when the police intercepted a vehicle near the Kali Platoon bridge in Ambala Cantonment. A car was also recovered from Chawla’s possession.
According to Ambala Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence. During the investigation, it was revealed that Chawla had been working as a supplier for an unidentified individual and had been compensated handsomely for his services. Chawla was arrested while traveling from Delhi.
Following Chawla’s arrest, a raid was conducted at the residence of the person who had directed him to transport the heroin. The raid resulted in the recovery of Rs5.69 lakh in drug money. Authorities are now working to apprehend the main supplier, whose criminal record includes multiple charges under the NDPS Act and assault.
A case has been filed at Parao Police Station under the NDPS Act, and Chawla has been remanded to three days of police custody. The police are continuing to investigate the source of the drugs and the network involved in their distribution.
Since January of this year, 33 drug-related cases have been registered in the district, including nine cases involving commercial quantities of drugs. In total, 52 individuals have been arrested, and various drugs, including heroin, opium, churapost, intoxicating tablets, ganja, and smack, have been seized.
The SP emphasized that the police are committed to making the district drug-free and are taking action against drug peddlers while raising awareness through camps on the dangers of narcotics. He encouraged the public to report information about drug-related activities for swift action.
