In Varanasi district, the Bhadohi Police on Wednesday arrested Amarbahadur Singh alias Murli Singh, a wanted accused carrying a Rs5,000 reward, in connection with a conspiracy to rob Rs5 lakh under the pretext of a silver coin deal.

Police also recovered Rs10,320 in cash from his possession.

Earlier, authorities had arrested sub-inspector Suresh Prasad Saxena, home guard Satyaprakash Yadav, and local resident Rajbahadur Singh for their alleged involvement in the case.

How the Robbery Was Planned

The case was registered at the Gopiganj Police Station following a complaint by Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi, a resident of Bhairav Nagar Colony in Pandeypur.

According to the complaint, on November 21, 2025, Ashish accompanied his aunt’s sons Murli Singh and Rajbahadur Singh to purchase seven kilograms of silver coins. The deal was allegedly arranged near the Kaulapur overbridge.

At the location, Rajbahadur’s associate Rajendra Singh was already present at a tea shop. He reportedly sat inside a vehicle carrying a bag filled with bricks and stones.

When Ashish demanded to see the silver before handing over Rs5 lakh, two individuals suddenly arrived claiming to be Crime Branch officers. They allegedly seized his bag containing the cash and fled the scene.

Realising he had been duped, Ashish lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
