HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. — A 32-year-old Virginia woman, Amanda Kempton, has been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that killed Netflix star Sara Burack, according to the Southampton Town Police Department.
The tragic incident occurred shortly before 3:00 a.m. near Villa Paul Restaurant on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, where Burack, 40, was struck by a vehicle. First responders found her critically injured at the scene. She later died at Stony Brook University Hospital.
The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene, prompting a multi-agency manhunt involving the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit. Authorities confirmed that Kempton was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, a Class D felony in New York.
If convicted, Kempton faces up to four years in prison. Details about how she was identified as a suspect have not yet been released. She is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Burack, a licensed real estate broker, gained national attention as a cast member on the Netflix series Million Dollar Beach House. In addition to her career in luxury real estate, she was deeply involved in charity work, supporting leukemia research and animal rescue efforts.
Her sudden death has prompted widespread mourning among fans, friends, and colleagues.
“She was a hardworking real estate agent who was there for others,” said close friend and fellow realtor Paulette Corsair. “She was loved greatly by her friends and a close family.”
Authorities are urging anyone with further information to contact Southampton Town Police.
