CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. — Amanda Alice Blanton, 36, of Newport, has pled guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Daniel Andrew Brisson, 46, officials announced.

Blanton received a prison sentence of 238–298 months in the Department of Adult Correction during a recent session of Carteret County Criminal Superior Court.

She had been accused of acting with two accomplices to inject methamphetamine and fentanyl into Brisson’s body, then leaving it on Harris Street.

The investigation was led by Carteret County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Courtney Howell, with prosecution by Assistant District Attorney David L. Spence. Resident Superior Court Judge Clint Rowe presided over the proceedings.

Authorities indicated that a more detailed release will follow once the co-defendant cases in the matter are resolved.
