Ghaziabad police arrested seven individuals on Friday in connection with a large-scale fake insurance policy scam that defrauded more than 1,500 people across India. The accused earned approximately Rs4.5 crore through the racket.
Two prime suspects, Aman Aggarwal (29) and Rahul Sharma (23), are former employees of HAXR, a Noida-based call centre that had ties with major insurance providers such as Reliance, Bharti Hexa, HDFC, Cigna TTK, and Bajaj. They allegedly stole customer data during their tenure and later used it to contact potential victims under the guise of promotional offers.
With assistance from five accomplices—Aftab Alam (25), Rahul Yadav (30), Deepak Singh (25), Garvit Tyagi (24), and Jagjit Singh (26)—the group collected payments and issued fake insurance receipts using forged documents and specialised software. Their “office” operated out of a parked car, enabling them to avoid suspicion.
According to Alok Priyadarshi, Additional CP of Ghaziabad, the gang used pre-activated SIM cards registered under fake identities, provided by a man named Mukesh, who remains at large.
“The victims were tricked into sending payments to mule bank accounts. In return, they received counterfeit policy documents, believing they had purchased genuine insurance,” Priyadarshi said.
The seven accused have been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
Section 340: Use of forged documents
They also face charges under Section 66 of the IT Act related to cybercrime.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace others involved, including Mukesh and any potential leads linked to financial laundering and data breaches.
