MILLBROOK, Ala. — Millbrook police have arrested a Deatsville man following a December theft investigation involving an alleged gift card fraud scheme at a local Dollar General.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Dec. 15 at the Dollar General located in the 4900 block of Main Street. Officers responded to a report of theft by deception after employees reported suspicious transactions involving prepaid gift cards.
Police said three suspects entered the store and attempted to preload gift cards using a debit or credit card. Investigators allege the suspects received cash for the transactions before canceling the payment through their card provider, resulting in a financial loss to the store.
During the investigation, officers learned that individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions were involved in a similar incident at a Dollar General in Elmore County.
One suspect, Amahji Truss, 23, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree theft of property. He was booked into the Elmore County Detention Facility on a $35,000 bond.
Police said two additional suspects remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
