MARENGO, ILLINOIS — A major drug trafficking arrest was made Wednesday when Amador Abel, 52, of South Elgin, was found in possession of three kilograms of cocaine during a SWAT-led raid at a farm near Marengo.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team executed a court-authorized search warrant at a property in the 23400 block of Harmony Road in unincorporated Marengo. According to prosecutors, Abel was discovered attempting to hide in a barn during the search.
Multiple individuals were detained, and the warrant included all vehicles on-site. Among them was a red tow truck, which initially no one claimed. Officers warned they would force entry, prompting Abel to admit ownership and hand over the keys.
Inside the truck, investigators found three kilograms of cocaine, which tested positive in a field test. The estimated street value of the narcotics was up to $126,000, as each kilogram can sell for $28,000 to $42,000 depending on street pricing.
The truck was registered to Abel’s home address, and records confirmed he had arrived at the property just prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
Abel now faces the following charges:
Manufacture or delivery of more than 900 grams of cocaine (Class X felony)
Possession of more than 900 grams of cocaine (Class 1 felony)
Class X felonies in Illinois are among the most serious drug-related offenses and can carry lengthy prison terms.
Authorities have not released information regarding possible charges for others found on the property, but the investigation remains ongoing.
