Alyx R. Hinton, 18, Charged with Murder in Davenport Shooting

Douglas Meier, 28, died after gunfire on Gaines Street

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — An 18-year-old from Minnesota has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in Davenport early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:06 a.m., Davenport police, fire, and EMS responded to the 1700 block of Gaines Street after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old Douglas C. Meier suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency crews administered first aid, and Meier was transported to Mercy One Genesis Hospital East Campus, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities identified Alyx R. Hinton, 18, as the suspect in the shooting. Hinton has been charged with:

First-degree murder

Two counts of attempted murder

Two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon

Going armed with intent

Hinton is currently in custody as the investigation continues.

Police have not released further information about the motive or the events leading up to the shooting.
