A 25-year-old woman from Montgomery County, Alyson Martin, has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Powell County earlier this week. The incident, which resulted in the death of 42-year-old Ross Hicks, has led to Martin’s arrest on several serious charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, tampering with physical evidence, vehicular homicide under the influence of alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The crash occurred in Clay City, Kentucky, on Tuesday night. Martin, who was expected to appear in Franklin County Court on Thursday for another DUI charge from 2024, has a criminal history that includes a prior DUI arrest. In February 2024, she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, and possession of an open alcohol container after a traffic stop revealed her blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
Cierra Robertson, the niece of the deceased, spoke about her loss: “A part of me is gone. Someone I could always call is no longer here,” she said, remembering her uncle, who she affectionately called “Uncle Bossy.” She described Hicks as a devoted father to three young children and a man who had turned his life around after battling addiction. Hicks, who had been sober for nearly five years and had recently found faith, was also helping others in their recovery journey.
Despite the tragic loss, Robertson hopes that Martin will take responsibility for her actions and turn her life around. The family has created a GoFundMe to cover the costs of Hicks’ funeral, as he did not have life insurance. The community deeply mourns his passing, with many reflecting on his journey of redemption.
