The Wakad Police have arrested Alok Ajaykumar Purohit (43), a resident of Jaipur, for allegedly cheating and sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of marriage after meeting her on a matrimonial application.
The case, registered on September 27, 2025 (Crime No. 560/2025) at the Wakad Police Station, invokes Sections 64, 69, 115(2), 117(2), and 341 of the Indian Justice Code, 2013, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
According to investigators, Purohit created fake profiles on multiple matrimonial sites, including Jeevansathi.com, Shaadi.com, and IITIMShaadi.com, posing as an unmarried man. He befriended a divorced woman from Pune, earned her trust through promises of marriage, and later forcibly established physical relations with her at her home.
Afterward, he allegedly blackmailed the victim with private photos and videos, threatening to publish them online if she reported the incident. The woman lodged a complaint, leading to Purohit’s arrest on October 7, 2025.
Police investigations revealed that Purohit is already married and may have used similar tactics to deceive other women across India through matrimonial platforms. Authorities are now examining digital evidence and identifying potential additional victims.
The investigation is being led by Senior Police Inspector Vanita Dhumal of Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station, under the supervision of Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Chaube, Additional Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, and Deputy Commissioner Vishal Gaikwad of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police (Circle 2).
Officials emphasized that users of matrimonial platforms should exercise caution and verify identities before sharing personal details online.
