NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) — A North Platte man wanted for multiple traffic violations is now facing several drug charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 80.

On February 13, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper pulled over Alfonso Romero, 37, near Maxwell for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper noticed a methamphetamine pipe with residue on the dashboard, which prompted a search of the vehicle.

Authorities discovered 14 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 10 grams of cocaine, three Xanax pills, and $1,000 in cash inside the vehicle. Additionally, six grams of cocaine belonging to Romero’s passenger, 32-year-old Colbey Flaming, was found during the search, according to court documents.

Both Romero and Flaming were arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center. Romero faces drug possession charges, and both men are being held on a $100,000 bond, with 10% required for release.

A warrantless arrest affidavit revealed that Romero was identified using his Nebraska ID card. A records check showed that his driver’s license had been revoked in Nebraska, and he had an outstanding warrant for prior traffic offenses.

Romero is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on March 27.
