MIDLAND, TX — A 20-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges after a shoplifting call at a Home Depot in Midland led police to uncover drugs during jail intake procedures.

Alexyss Griffith, 20, was arrested on Sunday, June 1, after Home Depot Asset Protection Associates observed her and a male accomplice concealing items in her purse at the store located on Midland Drive. When confronted, Griffith returned the stolen items, valued at $33.45, to store employees, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Reporter-Telegram.

Initially, Griffith was charged with theft of property under $100, a Class C misdemeanor. Both she and the male suspect were taken to the Midland County Detention Center.

However, while being booked into the facility, jail staff discovered Griffith was hiding drug paraphernalia and narcotics in her body. She eventually admitted to concealing a meth pipe, a bag of white crystalline substance, and a glass bottle containing pills, according to the affidavit.

Due to prior theft convictions in Ector County in 2023 and 2024, her theft charge was upgraded to a state jail felony for theft under $2,500 with two prior convictions. She also faces charges of:

Possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility (third-degree felony)

Possession of a controlled substance (third-degree felony)

Griffith remains in custody at the Midland County Detention Center.
