LARCHWOOD — Former West Lyon High School coach Alexis Ann Severson, 26, has entered a not guilty plea to multiple charges related to sexual misconduct with a student. Severson faces three counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee and one count of grooming.
Severson was arrested on October 31, 2025, and filed her plea through attorney Jared Weber of Orange City on December 1. She also waived her right to a speedy trial. A jury trial is scheduled for March 10, 2026, with a pretrial conference set for February 10.
The charges stem from incidents involving a member of the West Lyon softball team between July 24, 2024, and May 16, 2025. Authorities allege that Severson, who held supervisory authority over the student, engaged in a relationship involving kissing, touching, and sexual acts throughout the student’s senior year. The grooming charge claims she used a phone and third-party communication to entice the student into a sexual relationship.
A no-contact order has been issued against Severson. She posted a $10,000 unsecured bond and was released from the Lyon County Jail.
Severson, who served as head coach for the 2024 and 2025 West Lyon softball teams after three years as an assistant coach, resigned from her position at the end of the 2025 season. Under her leadership, the Wildcats posted a 52-6 record, won two Siouxland Conference titles, and reached the Class 2A state tournament for the first time since 2004, finishing as runner-up.
Class D felonies carry potential penalties of up to five years in prison and fines ranging from $1,025 to $10,245 per count. The case remains under investigation as it proceeds through the Lyon County court system.
