ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) — Damirian Shorts, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in Dallas, Texas, on April 6, 2025, in connection with a 2024 homicide in Alexandria.
According to the Alexandria Police Department (APD), Shorts was located in Dallas and transported back to Alexandria for processing. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. His bond has been set at $2,110,000, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Shorts is accused in connection with the September 17, 2024, homicide of 58-year-old Verna Francis, who was shot and killed in the 3800 block of 3rd Street in Alexandria. Two other individuals were also injured in the incident.
The Alexandria Police Department has confirmed that the investigation into the case remains ongoing as they continue to seek further details.
